This presentation entitled ‘The Liminality of Modern-Day Exorcism’ was offered at The Supernatural in Contemporary Society Conference, held at Robert Gordon’s University in Aberdeen, UK, in August, 2018. The presentation was offered under the banner of ‘The Supernatural as Profession’ and I discussed my roles as a Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist in Private Practice and a Modern-day Exorcist/Spirit Release Practitioner. I reviewed Traditional Exorcism from a Western cultural, ritualistic and religious perspective, and its polarisation with Spirit Release Therapy. Where exactly does modern-day Exorcism fit given the ontological and epistemological problems and polarities between Paranormal Investigators, Marketed ghostly Sites, The Psychological Field and Society.
